MOJE LABORATORIUM
Fascynują mnie możliwości inżynierii genetycznej – zmiany informacji genetycznej, przenoszenia jej między różnymi organizmami i tworzenia nowych właściwości.
Obiekty to różne rośliny lub ich części, które sama wyhodowałam, zebrane w parkach i ogrodach botanicznych, nie tylko na Litwie. Nie mniej ważne są dla mnie historie roślin – skąd i jak do mnie trafiły: owoce monstery z Indii, która w naszej strefie klimatycznej nie rodzi owoców, a jedynie okazałe liście, owoce magnolii z ogrodów Rzymu, które przywieźli znajomi, brokuły, które udało mi się wyhodować w ogródku (i to tylko jeden!), karczochy ze sklepu, który zbierałam tak długo, że ludzie wokół mnie zaczęli pytać o przepisy. Musiałam się wtedy przyznać – interesowała mnie tylko ich forma, a nie sztuka kulinarna.
Formy gipsowe są odlewane z roślin, dzięki czemu możemy wyraźnie zobaczyć ich powierzchnię i teksturę. Później, używając techniki stemplowania gliną, z różnymi masami gliny, uformowane i pomnożone obiekty zamieniają się w nowe rośliny/krajobrazy. W ten sposób nie tylko bawię się nowymi formami, ale jednocześnie pozostawiam przyszłym pokoleniom informacje o obecnie rosnących roślinach, ich wielkości i kształtach.
Większość prac jest wypalana w redukcji raku – technice, która jest dość niebezpieczna i toksyczna, ale jednocześnie szalenie uwodzicielska, efekty wypału bywają przerażająco dziwne.
Rasa Justaitė Gecevičienė (ur. 1970 w Kownie) Ukończyła Akademię Sztuk Pięknych w Wilnie (VDA) na Wydziale Ceramiki, gdzie w latach 2015-2024 pełniła funkcję Dziekana. Od 1994 roku aktywnie uczestniczy w litewskich i międzynarodowych sympozjach i wystawach. Od 2003 roku należy do Stowarzyszenia Artystów Litewskich (LAA), od 2018 r. do Fundacji Michała Anioła na rzecz kreatywności i rzemiosła.

Ceramics/living laboratory with modified objects.
One aspect of my work is the synthesis of biology and art.
I am fascinated by the possibilities of genetic engineering – the ability to change genetic information, transfer it between different organisms and create new properties. What is difficult in science can be easily used in ceramics and creativity.
Another part of my work, technological – working with plaster molds.
Objects are various plants or their parts that I grew myself, collected in parks and botanical gardens not only in Lithuania. The stories of plants, where and how they come to me are no less important to me: bananas – monstera fruits from India, because in our climate zone these plants do not bear fruit, only impressive leaves. Magnolia fruits from the gardens of Rome, which were brought by friends. Broccoli, which I managed to grow in my garden (and only one!). An artichoke from the store, which I collected for so long that people around me started asking for recipes. I had to admit – I was only interested in the form, not the culinary arts.
I really like that some fruits have animal names – for example, snake fruit. Or a play on words – uprooted (wrong side up) stump, washed (stolen) forest, which have a double meaning.
Plaster molds are cast from these plants so that we can clearly see the surface and texture of the plant. Later, using the clay stamping technique, with different clay masses, the formed and multiplied objects turn into new plants/landscapes. In this way, I not only play with new forms, but at the same time I leave information for future generations about the currently growing plants, their size, and shapes.
Most of the works are fired in Raku reduction, which is actually a partially dangerous and toxic technology, but at the same time insanely seductive with its external beauty surfaces, because the resulting effects are frighteningly strange. The effect of horsehair and metallic glazes is also used.
All this is intertwined in the exhibition MY LAB.
Rasa Justaitė Gecevičienė graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts (VDA), Faculty of Applied Arts, Department of Ceramics in 1995. Master of Fine Arts.
Since 1994 he has been actively participating in Lithuanian and international symposia and exhibitions: in Poland, Italy, Moldova, Latvia, the Netherlands, Turkey, Romania, Estonia, Germany, Ukraine, Taiwan, South Korea, Portugal.
From 2003 Present Member of Lithuanian Artists’ Association (LAA).
From 2018 Present Member of Michelangelo Foundation for creativity and craftmanship.
More famous awards: DIPLOMA at the 8th Vilnius Ceramic Art Biennial in 2024. CERAMICS PRIZE OF THE YEAR in Lithuania in 2021. DIPLOMA „For Original Approach” at the High Firing Temperatures Festival, A. Geppert Academy of Art and Design, Wroclaw in 2021. DIPLOMA at the international ceramic’s competition „Golden Pitcher” in Turkey in 2026. Since 2006, she has received four personal state grants for artists, awarded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
Constantly participates in mobility programs at other universities and art centers in
Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Israel, Romania, Turkey, Netherlands, France, Finland, Portugal.
